Arts + Tech + Volunteerism = Warm Fuzzies
Most of you are already familiar with the ArtsTech meetup I organize, a group dedicated to integrating the worlds of art and technology and fostering a discussion around how tech can benefit the cultural community. Over the course of these past two years, I’ve learned a lot about the art world, including some of the resource struggles faced by smaller non-profit arts organizations. I’m hoping to change that in some small way, and I could really use your help.
I’m experimenting with a new meetup format this month where I hope to match up art organizations with tech volunteers on various projects. I believe it’s a great opportunity for those looking to break into the arts market to work with some top-notch organizations, beef up their portfolios, or just give back by donating their time and skills to a worthwhile project.
Participating organizations include: The Whitney Museum, The Liberty Science Center, New York Foundation for the Arts, New York Academy of Art, The Museum of American Finance, Rhizome, RxArt and more. (You can read about the proposals here: http://www.artstechmeetup.com/project-matchmaking/)
As you can see, we’ve got some amazing organizations on board. But for this event to be a success, I could really use your help with the following:
- Spreading the word! I’m looking for volunteers to donate their time and skills to a variety of projects—we’ll need designers, developers, social media strategists, videographers and more. Please consider passing the event announcement on to any people, schools, organizations, listserves, etc. you think may be interested in participating. Here’s the link: http://www.meetup.com/Arts-Culture-and-Technology/calendar/14925651/
- Finding sponsors! We are looking for sponsors big and small to help finance this event. It’s a great opportunity for companies to speak to an audience that lives at the intersection of art and technology and promote continued technological advancement in the cultural sector. Please get in touch if you have any leads and/or want more info. I’m kind of clueless on this front.
- Write about it! Or have a friend write about it. Whether it’s for a publication or on your personal blog, I really need help spreading the word about this initiative.
Well, there you have it. Any help you can offer on any of these fronts would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if you need anything from me (i.e. form letters, additional info, etc.) to help you help me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for (maybe) helping out!
